Lubricant Recommendations
In the ambient (outside) temperature range of 0°F (-18°C) to +120°F (+49°C), use SAE 10W oil for the hydraulic system. For operation in temperatures below freezing (+32°F) (+0°C), use either of the two oils that follow: 1. A special arctic-type oil like Conoco DN 600 Hydraulic Oil or a similar arctic grade hydraulic oil with a pour point of at least -65°F (-53°C). Do not use Conoco DN 600 Polar Start Engine Oil. It does not give enough protection in low temperatures and hydraulic pump failures can be the result.2. Dilute (make thinner) the hydraulic system oil with No. 1 diesel fuel or kerosene. Do not dilute the hydraulic oil more than 25%.
When you change the oil, disconnect and completely drain every hydraulic hose, tube and cylinder. If you drain only the oil from the hydraulic tank, you will drain only 50% of the oil in the hydraulic system. When temperatures get above freezing, drain any hydraulic oil diluted with kerosene or No. 1 diesel fuel and again fill the system with SAE 10W oil. It is possible to use Conoco DN 600 Hydraulic Oil until the hydraulic tank temperatures reach + 160°F (+71°C). But, the recommendation is to change back to SAE 10W oil when ambient temperatures get above freezing.
Start Procedures
Use the start method given in the Operator's Guide of the machine. The procedures that follow are especially important: ... When the ambient temperature is below +60°F (+ 16°C) push and hold the hydraulic unloading valve control rod down until the engine starts.... When the ambient temperature is below 0°F (-18°C) push and hold the hydraulic unloading valve control rod down until the engine starts and hold it down for 1 to 2 minutes after the engine has started.... If the engine does not start after 10 seconds of use of the starter, turn the HEAT START switch to HEAT for 30 seconds and used the start procedure again. If it still does not start, let the starter cool for 2 minutes before the start procedure is used again.... Below 0°F (-18°C), it may be necessary to heat the coolant and crankcase oil, use a starting fluid and/or use extra battery power to get the engine started.... Exercise Recommendations
After the engine is started and is at operation temperature, you must exercise the transmission and power train. To do this, run the engine just above low idle and put the controls in first forward and then first reverse speed. Do this several times with the parking brake on. Release the brake and move the vehicle a short distance forward and then backward, several times for several minutes.
Operate the vehicle in light load conditions until all systems are at a normal operation temperature. If the vehicle is parked long enough to permit its temperature to go below normal operation temperatures, slowly exercise it again before the machine
