3600 Family Of Generator Set Engines Using EGB29P Governor/ActuatorsUse this procedure when starting any of the above engines when the EGB29P Governor/Actuator has just been replaced or refilled with oil. Air entrained in the oil may cause the engine to surge and could even result in an overspeed. Also, the governor oil level will drop slightly during the initial operation and the low oil level can also result in surge and overspeed.
1. Fill the EGB29P Governor/Actuator with oil that is the correct viscosity for the engine.2. Be sure that the 2301A Governor is the standard, forward acting type and that it has been installed correctly. (See Special Instruction SELS0115.)3. Make sure failsafe circuit is activated (no connection between terminals 16 and 18).4. Close the rated speed switch (or put jumper across terminals 16 and 19).5. Activate manual shutoff (and/or disconnect power from 2301A Governor terminals 15 and 16).6. Crank the engine and measure output voltage of magnetic pickup across terminals 28 and 29 (should be greater than 1 VAC RMS).7. Release manual shutoff (and/or reconnect actuator wires back to terminals 15 and 16).
The engine can overspeed due to improper reassembly or adjustment, which could result in personal injury, or loss of life, and/or property damage.
Be prepared to stop the engine by activating the emergency air shutoff or by manually closing the air inlets.
8. Turn the load limit knob on the EGB29P Governor/Actuator so the pointer is between 5 and 6. This will limit maximum power to about half of rated power.9. For start-up, turn the speed adjust potentiometer that has been connected to terminals 23 and 24 of the 2301A Governor to minimum speed. Crank the engine and slowly turn the speed adjust potentiometer to increase speed until the engine starts.
Be ready to control the engine shutoff manually if there is no oil pressure or if oil pressure is too low. Damage to the engine will be the result if the engine continues to run without the correct oil pressure.
10. Increase engine speed by turning the speed adjust potentiometer to increase speed to approximately 500 rpm.11. Adjust the speed
