Information:
The code indicates a warning for low fan speed. The warning will appear if the feedback to the Electronic Control Module (ECM) is not within 300 rpm of the commanded speed. The warning will also appear if communication to the fan has been lost.Use this procedure in order to troubleshoot the aftertreatment cooling fan or use this procedure if the diagnostic code in Table 1 is active or logged.Note: The following code may not be applicable for certain applications.Clear all "Active" codes using Cat ET before proceeding with the following procedure. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Diagnostic Capabilities - Clearing Active Codes for On Board Diagnostics (OBD)" for more information on clearing "Active" codes.

Diagnostic Trouble Codes
CDL Code    J1939 Code    Description
(code descriptions may vary)    System Response
E1190 (3)     5562-1     Aftertreatment Fan Speed - Low     The code is logged if the fan speed is not within 300 rpm of the commanded speed. Also, the code will be logged if communication for the CAN data link is lost between the Electronic Control Module (ECM) and the fan.    Note: The following schematic is used for Motor Grader Applications

Table 2
Troubleshooting Test Steps    Values    Results
1. Inspect the Fan
A. Inspect the fan for the following conditions:
1. Damaged fan blades
2. Debris against the fan blades
3. Air flow is obstructed

Damaged fan
Result: The fan is not damaged or obstructed.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
Result: The fan is obstructed.
Remove the obstruction. Verify that the problem is resolved.
Result: The fan is damaged.
Replace the fan. Verify that the problem is resolved.

2. Check for Voltage at the Fan
A. Disconnect the two-pin connector to the fan.
B. Turn the keyswitch to the ON position.
C. Measure the voltage between pins 1 and 2 on the connector.

Voltage equal to battery voltage
Result: The voltage is equal to battery voltage.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
Result: The voltage is not equal to battery voltage.
The problem is in the wiring between the fan and the battery. Check the fuse between the fan and the battery. Repair the wiring.

3. Check for Continuity Between the Fan and the ECM
A. Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.
B. Disconnect the four-pin connector from the aftertreatment cooling fan.
C. Disconnect the J1 and J2 connector from the ECM.
D. Check for continuity between pins 1, 3 and 4 on the 4-pin connector and the associated pins on the ECM connector. Refer to the appropriate wiring schematic.

Continuity
Result: There is continuity on all three wires.
Replace the aftertreatment cooling fan. Verify that the problem is resolved.
Result: There is not continuity on all three wires.
Repair the wiring or replace the wiring. Verify that the problem is resolved.
