1. Loosen two jam nuts (1).2. Turn adjusting bolts (2) to loosen belt tension. 3. Support head pulley (3) so it will not fall when the bearing is removed. The weight of the head pulley is 113 kg (250 lb).4. Support upper conveyor motor (10). The weight of the upper conveyor motor is 14 kg (31 lb).5. Loosen coupling bolts (5).6. Remove the upper conveyor motor and torque arm. Do not lose the key on the motor shaft.7. Place the upper conveyor motor and torque arm to a place where they will not fall.8. Remove shaft bolt (6).9. Remove coupling (9) from the shaft.10. Loosen set screw (7) in bearing (4).11. Remove four bolts (8).12. Remove bearing (4) from the shaft. Check bearing and replace if necessary. For installation of the upper conveyor head bearing, reverse the removal steps.13. Lubricate bearing (4). After installation, follow the steps to adjust the tension of the upper conveyor belt.
Keeping the proper tension in the conveyor belts is important for long belt life, as well as for efficient conveyor operation. If a belt is too tight, nicks and cuts in the belt cover will spread rapidly. The belt will stretch and lose its strength, and the pulley bearings may even fail. If the belt is too loose, the cover that contacts the pulley will wear rapidly due to slippage.
Do not try to remove all the sag from the return side of the belt.
a. Hold adjusting nuts and turn adjusting bolts evenly and alternately.b. Hold adjusting bolts and tighten jam nuts. Do not make large corrections-make a small correction, check operation. Then, if necessary, make another small correction until optimum belt tension is reached.
