Typical ExampleNote: Measure crankshaft end play and record clearance before the clutch is installed. After the clutch has been installed onto the engine, hit the output shaft sharply on the end. This is done in order to relieve any preload. (1) Bearing adjustmentUse the following procedure for bearing adjustment:
Tighten the bearing retainer until there is no clearance between the cup and the cone.
Loosen the bearing retainer. Loosen approximately three notches. Tighten the bearing retainer again.
Strike the output end of the shaft in order to seat the inner bearing cup against the bearing retainer. Check end play.Reference: Refer to table 1 for bearing end play measurements. (2) Clutch Engagement CheckUse the following procedure for adjustment:
Engagement force is measured in torque on the end of the splined clutch lever shaft.
Remove the nameplate from the clutch housing in order to access the adjustment locknut for the engagement force.
Rotate the clutch shaft in order to access the lock pin and the adjustment locknut.
Disengage adjusting lock pin and rotate the adjusting ring clockwise in order to increase the engagement torque.
Rotate the adjusting ring counterclockwise in order to decrease the engagement torque.Reference: Refer to table 1 for engagement torque on the splined clutch lever shaft.
