Steering accumulator charging solenoid circuit
This diagnostic code indicates that the Chassis ECM detects steering accumulator charging solenoid current is below normal. The following can cause this code:
Open solenoid energizer circuit.
Open solenoid return circuit.
Solenoid failure.
ECM failure.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created codes and clear these created codes after the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure diagnostic code CID 1493 FMI 05 is active before performing this procedure.Note: Use a calibrated digital multimeter for this procedure.System Response:
The steering pump goes to the maximum displacement.
There is no effect during normal machine operation.Test Step 1. CHECK THE SOLENOID
Turn on the disconnect switch and the key switch.
Disconnect the solenoid from the harness.
At the harness connector for the solenoid, place a jumper wire from contact 1 (wire X755-WH(White)) to contact 2 (wire H862-GY(Grey)).
Observe the status of the CID 1493 FMI 05.Expected Result:CID 1493 FMI 05 remains active, FMI 05 has not changed. Results:
OK - CID 1493 remains active, FMI 05 has not changed. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - CID 1493 is not active, FMI 05 has changed. The solenoid has failed.Repair: Replace the solenoid.Verify that the new solenoid corrects the problem.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE HARNESS FOR AN OPENThe jumper wire that was previously installed remains in place.
Turn off the key switch and the disconnect switch.
Disconnect the harness from the ECM.
At the harness connector, measure the resistance from signal contact J1-61 (wire X755-WH(White)) to contact J1-60 (wire H862-GY(Grey)).Expected Result:The resistance is less than 5.0 ohms. Results:
OK - The resistance is less than 5.0 ohms. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. There is an open in wire X755-WH(White)or wire H862-GY(Grey).Repair: Repair or replace the harness.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE DIAGNOSTIC CODEThe key switch and the disconnect switch remain off.
Inspect the harness.Clean the harness connector contacts.Inspect the harness connector contacts for corrosion or damage.Inspect the wire insulation for damage caused by heat, corrosion, or chafing.
Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each circuit wire.
Reconnect all harness connectors.Verify that the connectors are fully seated and the clips are fastened.
Check for intermittent problems. Using Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat® ET), perform a wiggle test on the harness.
Turn on the disconnect switch and the key switch.
Operate the machine.
Check CID 1493 FMI 05 status.Expected Result:CID 1493 FMI 05 is not active.Results:
OK - CID 1493 FMI 05 is not active.Repair: The initial diagnostic code was probably caused by a poor connection at one of the connectors that was checked.Resume normal operation.STOP
NOT OK - CID 1493 FMI 05 is active. The ECM may have failed.Repair: Exit this procedure and perform this procedure again. Contact your technical communicator. If the ECM requires replacement, see Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".STOP
