Screed Plate Heater (1) Heater elementsThe screed is composed of six sections. The two halves of the main screed, the two screed extenders, and the optional extensions. Each section of the main screed and screed extenders has single heater element (1).

Temperature Sensor on Right Extender (2) Temperature sensorEach screed plate on the main screed and the screed plate on each extender are equipped with temperature sensor (2). The temperature sensors are located under a protective plate. This plate has been removed in the above illustration. The optional extensions do not have temperature sensors.Temperature sensors (2) are resistance-type devices. The resistance through the sensor changes with changes in temperature. The heater ECM measures the resistance through the sensors, and converts the reading to a temperature value.

Tamper Bar (3) Heater elementThe screed is equipped with up to six tamper bars. One tamper bar is located on each screed section. Each tamper bar is equipped with heater element (3) .Heater element (3) is attached to the back face of each tamper bar. The heater moves with the tamper bar.System Operation

Left extender temperature sensor (24) Heater ECM (9) receives digital input signals from the CAN bus and the diagnostic connector. The CAN bus is not used when this screed is attached to the AP300D Asphalt Paver.When this screed is attached to AP300D Asphalt Paver, heater ECM (9) monitors the engine rpm frequency signal at terminal "J1-10". This input allows the ECM to determine how many heater elements to allow on at the same time.Heater ECM (9) analyzes the input signals and generates the appropriate output signal to the following output devices:
