Removal Procedure
Start By:
Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Personal injury can result from hot coolant, steam and alkali.At operating temperature, engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot coolant or steam. Any contact can cause severe burns.Remove filler cap slowly to relieve pressure only when engine is stopped and radiator cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Cooling System Conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
Note: Put identification on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Use caps and plugs on all lines, hoses, and tubes in order to prevent fluid loss or contamination of the systems.
Drain the radiator. The capacity of the cooling system is 55 L (15 US gal).

Disconnect coolant hose (1) from the top of radiator top tank (2) .

Disconnect coolant hoses (3) from radiator top tank (2) .

Disconnect coolant hose (5) .
Remove bolts (4). Remove bolts (6) from the mounting bracket.

Remove any remaining bolts (4). Remove bolts (6) from the other mounting bracket.
Use a hoist to carefully remove radiator top tank (2). The weight of radiator top tank (2) is 34 kg (75 lb).Installation Procedure

Use a hoist to carefully install radiator top tank (2). The weight of radiator top tank (2) is 34 kg (75 lb).
Install bolts (6) to the mounting brackets.
Install bolts (4) .
Connect coolant hose (5) to radiator top tank (2) .

Connect coolant hoses (3) to radiator top tank (2) .

Connect coolant hose (1) to radiator top tank (2) .
Fill the cooling system with coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct procedure.End By: Separate the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
