The Power Train Electric Drive System will contain hazardous voltage levels during machine operation and for a short period of time after engine shutdown.Do not remove any covers that will expose energized high voltage electrical components while the engine is operating.Any type of maintenance on the following components can only be performed after the Power Train Electrical System Service Shutdown procedure has been followed:
High voltage compartments in the inverter cabinet
The rear axle housing that contains the electric drive traction motors
The generator
The retarding resistor grid, the grid blower motor and the grid system cabling
The excitation field regulator
The high voltage cables and connection enclosuresFailure to follow these instructions could result in personal injury or death.
Liquids should not be allowed to accumulate inside the high voltage components. Moisture that is accumulated inside energized electrical components can cause a ground fault condition. When this occurs, the components may be severely damaged.

Illustration 2 g06232009High-pressure spray can damage electrical seals, electrical connectors, and the electrical insulation. When high-pressure spray is used to clean the areas within close proximity of the electrical system components, maintain the largest possible distance between the spray nozzle and the surface that is being cleaned. Avoid direct contact or close operation of the spray nozzle with the electrical components, the seals, the high-voltage cables, and the electrical connectors.Avoid a direct stream or an indirect spray of any liquid that could penetrate the following areas:
Covers, screens, and vents in the inverter cabinet
The grid for the electric retarder system
The rear axle cover that accesses cables for the traction motor
The outlet screen for the generator
The excitation field regulator (EFR)
Air ducts and flexible couplings that could be subject to tearing with high-pressure liquid
Any other high-voltage connections or high-voltage enclosures
Any other covers, screen, or vents in the high-voltage system
Park the machine on a level surface and stop the engine. make sure that the shift control lever is in the P position.
Cover the inverter cabinet with waterproof material. Refer to "Dimensions for the Inverter Cabinet" for the dimensions of the inverter cabinet to select a suitable cover.
When washing in the area of the retarder grid, prevent excess moisture from entering the grid by one of the following methods:
Allow the retarder grid to cool and cover the retarder grid with waterproof material. Refer to "Dimensions for the Retarder Grid" for the dimensions of the inverter cabinet to select a suitable cover.
Avoid and direct spray or indirect spray from entering the retarder grid.
Clean the machine.
Remove all the waterproof covers.
Activate the machine lockout switch. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Machine Lockout Control" for more information.
Start the engine and run for 5 minutes. Running the engine will allow the blower to expel any moisture from the electrical components.Note: Do not start the engine with covers on the retarder grid or inverter cabinet.
Stop the engine and deactivate the machine lockout switch.Dimensions for the Inverter Cabinet
