Connection Triangle The generator is a four pole, brushless, and self-regulating generator. A rotating inductor is incorporated with damper cage winding, and a fixed stator with skewed slots. The stator windings have a shortened pitch to reduce the harmonic content of the output waveform. The alternators are made in compliance with "2006/42", "2006/95", "2004/108" CEE directives and the directive amendments. The alternators are also made in compliance with the "CEI 2-3", "EN 60034-1", "IEC 34-1", and "VDE 0530" regulations. Tests to verify the electromagnetic compatibility have been carried out in the foreseen conditions by the standards with the neutral connected to the earth. The generator was designed to supply the nominal power in environments with a maximum temperature of 40° C (104° F), and at altitudes lower than 1000 m (3280 ft), unless otherwise specified. For operating conditions other than the conditions specified, consult your Cat dealer.The degree of protection of the generator is "IP21". Using any type of cleaner or spraying liquids over the parts containing electrical components is prohibited. Using cleaners or spraying liquids can cause a short circuit in the generator.After prolonged machine inactivity, or any signs of condensation, all windings must be subjected to insulation tests prior to operation. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Generator - Inspect", or consult your Cat dealer for the proper insulation test procedure.Before starting the machine, check that the generator air inlets and outlets are free of any obstructions. The air inlets should not be near any heating sources. For standard equipment, the cooling air temperature must be equal to the ambient temperature, and never higher than 40° C (104° F).Generator Protection
If the generator protection system is triggered, the output voltage will drop to a lower value dependant upon the fault. The voltage will return to the nominal value when the fault is removed. The following faults will trigger the generator protection system:1 - Speed reduced by 10% of nominal RPM2 - Overload by 20% of nominal rating3 - Power factor lower than the nominal rating4 - Ambient temperature greater than 50° C (122° F)5 - A combination of fault 1 with faults 2, 3 or 4Maintenance
