Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the precooler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Precooler - Remove".
Remove the water temperature regulator housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water Temperature Regulator Housing - Remove and Install".

Remove elbow (1) .
Remove precooler bracket (3) .
Remove exhaust manifold (2) .Installation Procedure

Apply Tooling (A) to the studs for the exhaust manifold. If necessary, install exhaust manifold studs in the cylinder head. Tighten the studs to a torque of 35 5 N m (26 4 lb ft).
Apply clean engine oil to the female ends of the exhaust manifolds before assembly. Apply Tooling (B) to the male ends of the exhaust manifolds before assembly. Remove excess sealer from the assembled joint.

Install Tooling (C) in the cylinder head at location "X". Note: Discard the locknuts after use. Use new locknuts for installation.
Assemble exhaust manifolds (2) on Tooling (C) in order to align the exhaust manifolds. Install the spacers on the exhaust manifold studs. Install the locknuts finger tight.
Remove Tooling (C) and install the remaining spacers and locknuts.

Tighten the locknuts in a numerical sequence that is shown in Illustration 3. Tighten the locknuts to a torque of 38 5 N m (28 4 lb ft).

Install precooler bracket (3) .
Install elbow (1) . Position exhaust manifold (2) on the cylinder head.End By:
Install the water temperature regulator housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water Temperature Regulator Housing - Remove and Install".
Install the precooler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Precooler - Install".
