Removal Procedure
Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire. To help prevent possible injury, turn the start switch off when changing fuel filters or water separator elements. Clean up fuel spills immediately.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Open drain plug (6) in the bottom of the fuel filter and drain the fuel into a suitable container.Note: Properly dispose of this old fuel. Do not attempt to reuse the old fuel in the new fuel filter.
Turn retaining ring (4) above the fuel filter. Remove fuel filter (5). Properly dispose of any remaining fuel in the fuel filter.
Disconnect tube assemblies (2) from fuel filter base (3) .
Remove bolts (1) in order to remove fuel filter base (3) .Installation Procedure

Put fuel filter base (3) in position. Install bolts (1) .
Connect tube assemblies (2) to fuel filter base (3) .
Place fuel filter (5) in position on fuel filter base (3) .
Rotate retaining ring (4) and tighten.
Ensure that drain plug (6) is closed.
It may be necessary to use the fuel priming pump after the fuel filter has been replaced. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System Priming Pump - Operate" for the correct procedure.
