Feeder Gates
When starting to pave, open both feeder gates approximately 1/2 open. If extensions are used, open gates to approximately 1/3 open. Adjust the feeder gates until they maintain a constant material level in the augers and a consistent flow of material to the ends of the screed. Do not open the feeder gates any further than required to feed material to the edge of the screed. If the gates are open too wide, there will be an excessively high level of material in the center of the screed. This condition creates uneven material feed under the screed and can cause mat problems. This condition can also create traction problems on soft base or heavily tacked surfaces.Pre-Strike Off
Adjust Main Screed Deflector Plates
The deflector plate must be adjusted so the edge of the plate is at the top of the radius of the nose piece. 1. Using bolts (1), position deflector plate (3) until the edge of the plate comes to the top of the radius on nose piece (4).2. Bolts (2) may have to be loosened to move the plate into position.3. With the plate in the proper position, tighten the bolts.Adjust Extender Deflector Plates
The deflector plate must be adjusted so the edge of the plate is at the top of the radius of the nose piece. 1. Using bolts (1) to loosen plate (2) so deflector plate (3) can be moved.2. Position deflector plate (3) until the edge of the plate comes to the top of the radius on nose piece (4).3. With the plate in the proper position, tighten the bolt.Adjust Extension Deflector Plates
The deflector plate must be adjusted so the edge of the plate is at the top of the radius of the nose piece. 1. To adjust the deflector plate, loosen bolts (1).2. Move deflector plate (2) so the edge of the plate comes to the top of the radius on nose piece (3).3. Tighten bolts (1).Extensions
Install
When screed extensions are used, it is necessary to transport the material further. This requires the use of an auger extension. See "Auger Extensions" in this manual. When extensions are installed, an extension harness will be required to connect the electrical control box (on the end gate) to the main electrical harness.1. Remove the end gates, supports frames and front deflector from the extender that the extension is being added to.2. Install the extension(s) using the two cam-bolts and the 25.4 mm (1 in) standard bolt.3. Before tightening the bolts, make sure the two mating screed plates are aligned both up and down and make sure the trailing edge is flush.4. Adjustments are made using the two cam-bolt adjusters. The .305 m (1 ft) extensions have no vibration.5. Connect the vibrator shaft if applicable.6. Reinstall the deflectors, support frames and the end gates.Auger Extensions
When screed extensions are used, it is necessary to transport the material further. This requires the use of an auger extension. If more than .61 m (2 ft) are added to augers, an outer support
