Disassembly Procedure
Start By:
Remove the engine oil filter housing.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Personal injury can result from parts and/or covers under spring pressure.Spring force will be released when covers are removed.Be prepared to hold spring loaded covers as the bolts are loosened.
Remove the bolts and cover (1).

Remove retainer (2), spring (3), and O-ring seal (4) from cover (1).

Remove engine oil filter elements (5).

Remove O-ring seals (7).
Remove the bolts and bypass valve housing (6). The weight of bypass valve housing (6) is approximately 43 kg (95 lb).

Remove adapter (8). Remove O-ring seal (9) from the adapter.

Remove O-ring seal (11) and pins (10), if necessary.

Remove nuts (12) and the bolts from support (13).
Remove bolts (14) and (16). Also remove covers (15) and (17).

Remove O-ring seals (20) and (21).
Remove spring (19) and bypass valve (18).

Remove bolts (22), cover (23), and the O-ring seals from the housing.
Remove O-ring seal (25) and pin (24), if necessary.
