Latch Installation Procedure
1. Form all sheet metal strips and plates of the 1U5495 Latch Group to the correct curvature by bending around a radius slightly smaller than that of the seal installer. This allows for "spring-back". Then, when the piece is firmly applied to the installer, it conforms to the curvature of the installer.2. Refer to the illustration and chart for Dimensions (X) and (Y). Mark dimensions (X) and (Y) on the installer.
Dimensions and component locations for 1U5495 Latch Installation.3. Clamp the seal installer in a parallel-jawed vice with the installer sawcut gap opened 5 mm (.2") as shown in the illustration.4. Position strip (A) on the installer and against the vise jaw opposite the installer working edge as shown in the illustration. Locate strip (A) so the mounting hole is bisected by the line at dimension (Y). Hold strip (A) in position and use as a template to center punch the installer surface a distance slightly less than the distance between the hole centers.5. Drill the locations center punched in Step 4 with a No. 29 drill (.136" Dia.). Thread the holes with an 8-32 tap. Install strip (A) and cover plate on the installer with two 7S1197 Screws as shown in the illustration.6. Slide tongue plate, with one edge against strip (A), under the cover plate. Hold the tongue plate in this position for Step 7.7. Slide strip (B) under the cover plate and against the tongue plate. There must be a slip fit between strip (B) and the tongue plate. With the mounting holes in the cover plate and strip (B) in alignment, center punch, drill and tap the installer as directed in Step 5. Install two 7S1197 Screws as shown in the illustration.8. Position the tongue plate so that the first two holes in the tongue plate are bisected by the line at dimension (X). Hold the tongue plate in position and use as a template to mark four mounting holes in the installer. Center punch and drill the four mounting holes with a No. 29 drill (.136" Dia.). Thread the four holes with an 8-32 tap. Install the tongue plate on the installer with four 7S1201 Screws as shown in the illustration.9. Drill a 1/4" diameter hole through the installer at the center of the large hole in the cover plate. Install the latch screw [1/4-20 thread, 18 mm (.7") long], 1/4" washer and wingnut (1/4-20 thread) as shown in the illustration.With this installation procedure, the sawcut ends of the installer should be held in good alignment and provide uniform force on the toric during seal installation. The tongue plate should slide freely under the cover plate.
Seal Installation Procedure
1. Put the rubber toric on the steel seal ring. Be careful to avoid any initial twist in the toric. Lay the seal assembly on a flat, clean surface with the toric on the bottom.2. Loosen the wing nut on the latch screw. With light pressure on the latch screw, spread the installer apart until
