Removing the Bearing

On the C2.2 generator set, the lid of the terminal box is replaced by the air inlet box (for engines fitted in a sound enclosure only). (1) Cover plate (2) Plenum chamber (3) Air intake hose (4) Air inlet box
In order to remove the air inlet box, remove the 4 bolts. See Illustration 1.

Remove the blanking plate (28) by loosening the bolt that holds the corner plate (13) to the terminal box (11). The bolt does not need to be entirely removed. Sufficiently loosen the bolt in order to remove the bolt from the slotted hole. The other side of the blanking plate (28) can then be removed from the slotted hole. See Illustration 2.
Remove the 4 nuts from the ends of the tie rods (17) .

Remove the bracket (30) from the opposite drive end. See Illustration 3.

Use a bearing puller in order to remove the bearing. See Illustration 4.Installing a new bearing
Heat the inner slip ring of the new bearing by induction or in a drying oven at 80 °C (176 °F) and fit the bearing to the machine.Note: Do not use an oil bath in order to heat the inner slip ring of the bearing.
Place the preloading type wavy washer (24) in the flange. Fit a new O-ring seal (23). See Illustration 2.
Reinstall the bracket (30) to the opposite drive end. See Illustration 3.
Reinstall the 4 nuts to the ends of the tie rods (17) .
Reinstall the blanking plate (28) by placing both ends in the slotted holes of the terminal box (11). Tighten the bolt that holds the corner plate (13) to the terminal box. See Illustration 2.
Reinstall the air inlet box and tighten the 4 bolts.
