(9) Inlet elbow The mixture of air and fuel is compressed by the compressor wheel of turbocharger (4). The warm compressed mixture flows through air line (6) and into aftercooler (7) for cooling. The mixture flows into throttle body (9).

The air/fuel mixture enters the air inlet manifold and the mixture is distributed to the cylinder heads. The air/fuel mixture is drawn through the openings of the inlet valves of the cylinders for combustion.

(8) Exhaust manifold After combustion, the exhaust gas exits the cylinders through the openings of the exhaust valves into exhaust manifold (8). The exhaust gas enters turbocharger (4) in order to drive the turbocharger's turbine wheel. The turbine wheel drives the compressor wheel. Some of the exhaust gas is diverted away from the turbocharger to exhaust elbow (3) by exhaust bypass valve (2). Exhaust gas from the turbocharger also exits the engine through the exhaust elbow.
