Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the engine oil pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pump - Remove".
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
In order to remove the connecting rod caps, rotate the crankshaft in a clockwise direction until the piston is at the bottom center position.

Inspect connecting rod (5) and connecting rod cap (2) for the proper identification mark. Connecting rod (5) and connecting rod cap (2) should have an etched Number (Y) on the side. The number should match the cylinder number. Mark connecting rod (5) and connecting rod cap (2), if necessary.
Remove bolts (1) from connecting rod (5). Remove connecting rod cap (2). Remove lower connecting rod bearing (3) from connecting rod cap (2). Note: Do Not reuse bolts (1). Use new bolts in order to secure connecting rod cap (2) for reassembly.
Carefully push connecting rod (5) into the cylinder bore. Remove upper connecting rod bearing (4) from connecting rod (5). Note: Do Not allow connecting rod (5) to contact the piston cooling jet.
Repeat Steps 1 through 4 for the remaining connecting rod bearings.
Start By:
