Cleaning Procedure
Note: Do not use sharp objects that may scrape or dent the instruments for fuel metering or the inside of the valve body. Any scrapes or dents can degrade the accuracy of the valve. Damage to the internal geometry of the fuel valve plate or the bore around the valve plate will change the calibration of the valve.Note: Do not use high-pressure washing. There are no components in the fuel valve that are replaceable or serviceable.Note: Make sure that the power is disconnected before removing the main connector on the fuel valve.Procedure to Remove Light Buildup
Remove the fuel valve from the engine.
Use a 20 to 1 mixture of hot water and 4C-8648 Cleaner to clean the valve.
Spray the solvent into the bore and on the all the internal components.
Use a plastic brush or brass brush to remove any contamination.
Repeat Step 3 and Step 4 or proceed to "Procedure for Heavy Buildup" if the contamination remains or if the motion of the valve does not improve.
Rinse the bore and all the internal components thoroughly with water.
Inspect the valve plate and the bore around the valve plate for any remaining contamination.
Allow the unit to dry completely before returning to service.Procedure for Heavy Buildup
Remove the fuel valve from the engine.
Position the fuel valve in the fully open position.
Cap the inlet flange of the fuel valve.
Fill the fuel valve with a solution of 60° C (140° F) water and 30 mL (1 oz) of liquid soap.
Leave the solution in the fuel valve for one to two hours.
Remove most of the soap solution from the fuel valve and place the solution into a container in case further cleaning is needed.
Use a plastic brush or a brass brush to remove any contamination.
Repeat Step 4 through Step 7 until the contamination is removed and the valve moves freely.
Fill the fuel valve with fresh 60° C (140° F) tap water and agitate the water in the valve bore with a long plastic rod.
Drain the fuel valve.
Repeat Step 9 through Step 10 until all the residue from the soap is removed from the valve. Also, you can remove the seal from the inlet flange in order to flush the valve bore with water.
Remove the seal on the inlet flange of the fuel valve if the seal is still attached.
Inspect the valve plate and the bore around the valve plate for any remaining contamination.
Allow the unit to dry completely before returning to service.Note: The fuel valve must be replaced if the contamination is still present and the contamination cannot be removed.
