Drop Arm Turnbuckle

Outboard Ends of Main Screed
(1) Drop arm turnbuckle
(2) Adjustment scaleDrop arm turnbuckles (1) are on the left and right side frames of the main screed. These turnbuckles allow for adjustment of the angle of attack of the screed. When drop arm turnbuckle (1) is turned clockwise, the angle of attack increases. This increase causes the mat thickness on the corresponding side of the screed to increase. When a drop arm turnbuckle is turned counterclockwise, the angle of attack decreases. This decrease causes the mat thickness on the corresponding side of the screed to decrease.Adjustment scale (2) is located next to each drop arm turnbuckle (1). This scale indicates the relative change in the angle of attack and provides a reference for the position of the screed to the drop arm. The scales should read the same on each side when adjustment is performed.Note: For detailed information on screed adjustments, refer to the Testing and Adjusting documentation.End Gate

(1) End gate
(2) End gate heater element
(3) Compression springs
(4) End gate jacksThe screed is equipped with end gates (1). The end gates prevent material from flowing around the screed. The end gates are mounted to the end of the extenders, or optional extensions. An optional end gate heater element (2) is available. When installed, the heater prevents material from adhering to the end gate shoe.Height control of end gates (1) is adjusted manually or hydraulically (power option). The standard end gates are manually adjusted. Hydraulically adjusted end gates are optional. On manually operated end gates, end gate jacks (4) control the height of the gate. When an initial mat is laid, the gate is lowered to ride on the grade. In this case, the gates create a longitudinal joint during paving. If a longitudinal joint is to be matched during paving, the gate is raised to ride on the adjacent mat.Guides designed into end gate (1) allow the end gate wall plate to travel vertically. Two compression springs (3) keep the foot of the plate in contact with the surface. These springs force the foot to follow the profile of the surface that is being paved.Note: Compression springs (3) must be adjusted to allow the end gate foot to follow the profile of the paving surface. If the springs are not properly adjusted, the screed may ride on the end gate. This situation results in increased wear on the end gate and may affect mat quality.

(7) End gate switches
(8) End gate hingeOn power end gates, two end gate height cylinders (5) control the height of the end gate. The cylinders are hydraulically operated. Power end gates function in the same manner as manually adjusted end gates.Operation of end gate height cylinders (5) is accomplished at extender control pendant (6). The control pendant operates the cylinders in unison. Each end gate is controlled by the respective pendant. Alternatively, end gate switches (7) mounted on each end
