Remove the rear compactor wheels.
Remove the rear drive shaft.
Remove the crankcase guard.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Note: Put identification marks on all hose assemblies and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies. This helps to prevent fluid loss, and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
Drain the oil from the oscillating axle into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Differential and Final Drive Oil - Change".

Attach a suitable lifting device to each side of oscillating axle (1). Attach Tooling (A) to the suitable lifting devices. The weight of oscillating axle (1) is approximately 1225 kg (2700 lb).

Disconnect tube assembly (2) from the trunnion support.

Disconnect tube assembly (3) from the trunnion support.

Remove bolts (4) that hold the trunnion supports to the frame of the machine.
Use Tooling (A) and the suitable lifting devices to lower oscillating axle (1) from the machine.Installation Procedure
Install oscillating axle (1) in the reverse order of removal.
Tighten bolts (4) to a torque of 475 60 N m (350 44 lb ft)
