Inching Clutch Modulation Calibration
Use the latest version of Cat ET, a computer, and communication adapter. Establish communication with the Electronic Control Modules (ECMs) via the service tool port located in the cab.
Download the product status report for each machine ECM.
Ensure that each ECM is updated to the latest software.
Perform transmission clutch fill calibration.Reference: Refer to Testing and Adjusting, UENR3480, "Fill Time for the Transmission Clutch - Calibrate".
Verify pedal modulation after calibration. If still unacceptable, rerun fill calibration a second time. If still unacceptable manual adjustment of the hold value is required. Proceed to Step 5.
From the main ET menu, select “Configuration” or the “Configuration Tool (F5)” from the “Service” menu bar. Refer to Illustration 3.Note: Transmission oil temperature must be 60° C (140° F) or above while adjusting hold values.

Expand “Transmission Configuration”. Refer to Illustration 4.Note: Must have 2011C ET or later installed.

Record current clutch amperage. Defaults are based on the latest fill calibration.
Clutch #1 Hold Level Current Command _________amps.
Clutch #2 Hold Level Current Command _________amps.
Clutch #3 Hold Level Current Command _________amps.
Adjust clutch current or amps.Note: Transmission must be in neutral when adjusting the hold values. Only adjust clutch current for the inching clutch that does not meet performance expectations. Observe change in inching performance after each amperage change.
Aggressive inching - adjust by 0.02 amp increments
Fine inching - adjustments should be 0.01 amp increments
If the machine moves early in pedal travel, then lower hold level current command
If the machine moves late in pedal travel, then increase hold level current command
Adjustment Range is 0.0 to 0.5 amps
Typical hold range is 0.11 to 0.17 amps
Default hold value, if no calibration performed, is 0.1 ampIf the adjusted hold value is above or below the “Typical Range”, verify clutch pressures, oil condition, oil viscosity, and filter or screens for other transmission issues. If the transmission software is not at the correct level, the value will read “Unavailable”.

Verify shifting performance. After completing amperage adjustment and inching performance is acceptable, verify that the following shifts have no issues. Also, verify all inching and shifting at various RPM ranges.
Clutch #1 is 3F-4F
Clutch #2 is 4F-3F
Clutch #3 is 2F-2R
