Ensure that all components are clean and free from wear or damage. If necessary, replace any components that are worn or damaged. If the bore for the relief valve in the housing of engine oil pump (4) is worn or damaged, the complete assembly of the engine oil pump must be replaced.
Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury. To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.
Lubricate plunger (3) with clean engine oil. Use long nose pliers to install plunger (3) and spring (2) into the bore for the relief valve in the housing of engine oil pump (4). Note: The plunger must slide freely in the bore for the relief valve.
Apply Tooling (A) to the threads of cap (1). Use an allen wrench to install cap (1) to engine oil pump (4). Tighten the cap to a torque of 21 N m (15.5 lb ft). Note: Ensure that the spring is properly located inside the plunger and the cap. Ensure that Tooling (A) does not contaminate the bore for the relief valve in the housing of the engine oil pump.End By:
Install the engine oil pan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pan - Install".
