Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

The transmission oil filter is located on the left side of the machine in front of the engine.

Remove the drain plug from the bottom of the filter housing and allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.
Use a wrench in order to remove the filter housing.
Remove the used filter element. Dispose of the used filter element properly.
Clean the filter housing with a clean, nonflammable solvent
Clean the housing base.
Inspect the filter housing seal. Replace the seal if the seal is damaged.
Install a new filter element into the transmission filter housing.
Clean the filter housing drain plug and install the drain plug. Install the filter housing into the filter housing base.
Start and run the engine at low idle. Apply the service brakes. Use the right brake pedal only.
Disengage the parking brake. Slowly operate the transmission controls in order to circulate the transmission oil.
Move the transmission directional control to the NEUTRAL position. Engage the parking brake.
Inspect the transmission oil filter for leaks.

Maintain the transmission oil level between the two marks (3) on sight gauge (2) when the engine is stopped. Maintain the transmission oil level between the two marks (4) on sight gauge (2) when the engine is running at low idle.
Remove oil filler cap (1) and add oil, if necessary.Reference: For information on lubricants and refill capacities, refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" for the machine that is being serviced.
Clean and install oil filler cap (1) .
Stop the engine.
