Location of the Machine ECM, Fuse Panels and Diagnostic Connector as shown on a CS54B. Component locations are similar on other models.The Machine ECM, Fuse Panels and Diagnostic Connector are located to the rear of the operator seat on the left side of the machine.The Diagnostic Connector and Fuse Panels are accessible by removal of the keyed fuse panel shown in Illustration 1. Access to the Machine ECM will require removal of the entire cover panel.The electronic control modules can communicate with each other through the CAN Data Link. Information from these electronic controls can be accessed through the machine monitor or by using the Plus+1 Service Tool for Caterpillar on a Windows-based laptop computer.

This connector is the same as used with Caterpillar Electronic Technician.Note: The Caterpillar Communication Adapter 3 is an RP1210A compliant communication interface device designed to work with a personal computer using Microsoft Windows.

Fuses - The fuses protect the electrical system from damage that is caused by overloaded circuits. If the element inside the fuse separates, replace the fuse. Check the circuit if the element is separated in the new fuse. Repair the circuit, if necessary. A film with pictographs is located on the inside of the fuse box cover. The location of a fuse matches the location of the pictograph.
