Table 1
Code Code Description Conditions Present Comments
523580-2 Intake Throttle Feedback Error Battery Voltage Is Normal. Deviation of throttle position is not corrected in 20 times
Intake Throttle 100% open
Warning Level 2
Engine derate
523582-3 Intake Throttle Lift Sensor: High Battery Voltage Is Normal
Sensor Supply Voltage Is Normal.
Sensor or ECM internal circuit short to +B. Intake throttle lift sensor voltage is 4.9 V or more
Engine derate
Intake Throttle 100% open
Warning Level 2
523582-4 Intake Throttle Lift Sensor: Low
Sensor or ECM internal circuit short to ground. Intake throttle lift sensor voltage is .1 volts or less
Engine derate
Intake Throttle 100% open
Warning Level 2 Note: The intake throttle operates only when an active regeneration is in process. After repairs are made perform the “Intake Throttle Override” within “Cat ET Service Features”Note: A -3 code is detecting an open circuit or +B short circuit of the sensor or wiring harness. A -4 code is detecting a ground short circuit of the sensor or harness. The 523580-2 code is often also caused by a harness problem.

Troubleshooting Test Steps Value Results
1. Inspect Electrical Connectors and Wiring
A. Check that the connector is fully seated at the sensor.
B. Check that the wires to the connector are not pulled tight at the connector, not rubbing, not broken.
C. Check that the connector pins and sockets are not damaged and aligned correctly.
D. Check the harness for corrosion, abrasion, and pinch points from the sensor to the Engine ECM. Check that Engine ECM pins are not bent and connector is fully seated.
E. Perform the “Wiggle Test” in ET to check continuity in the harness between the intake throttle connector and the ECM connector.
Loose connections, poor routings, damaged wires
Result: There is a fault in a connector or wiring.
Repair or replace the engine harness. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS7774 for more information regarding repair of sensor connectors. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS7297 for more information regarding repair of the Engine ECM connectors .
Result: There is no fault found.
STOP If no issues were found, contact your TC before replacing the intake throttle valve since these codes are most likely related to a problem with the harness .
