Inlet oil to transmission charging pump (1) comes through magnetic screen (13) from hydraulic oil tank (12). The pump sends oil through filter (2). The oil then flows to the priority valve in transmission hydraulic controls (3). This valve ensures that correct pressure oil is available for the synchronizing and shift solenoids before the oil is sent to the torque converter (4). The valve also ensures that correct pressure oil is available for the selector group of transmission hydraulic controls (3). The selector group allows pressure oil to flow to the correct transmission clutches. This ensures that the correct speed (gear) is engaged.If retarder (5) is not engaged, oil from torque converter (4) flows to retarder control valve (6). The oil then flows to oil cooler (7). The oil then flows back through retarder control valve (6) and the oil is then directed to lubrication valve (8) .If retarder (5) is engaged, oil from torque converter (4) flows through retarder control valve (6). The oil then flows to retarder (5). The discharge oil then flows back through retarder control valve (6). The oil then continues to flow to oil cooler (7). The oil then flows back through retarder control valve (6) and to transmission lubrication valve (8) .Transmission lubrication valve (8) sends some oil to the transmission planetary gears for lubrication. Most of the oil from transmission lubrication valve (8) goes to transmission case reservoir (9).
