Procedure to Install Recoil Guard Group
1. Remove the 8Y1801 Guard Group.2. Remove the 8Y6665 Cover Plate (15) from the 8Y1801 Guard Group and save for assembly.3. After the removal of the 8Y1801 Guard Group, cut all of the mounting lugs off of the track roller frame.4. Bolt bracket (10) in location on the track roller frame using the existing bolt holes using two bolts (11) and washers (12). The existing bolt holes on the track roller frame and the location of bracket (10) are instrumental in the location and installation of the remaining lugs and guards.5. Mount idler guard (5) to bracket (10) using one bolt (11) and one washer (12).6. Using the bolt holes in idler guard (5) as a guide, drill and tap the idler bearings at Location (A). Drill a 8.20 mm (.323 in) diameter hole to a depth of 25.4 mm (1.00 in). Tap this hole 3/8-16-2B UNC to a depth of 17.53 mm (.690 in). Secure the idler guard to the idler bearing using two bolts (11) and washers (12).7. Place the right side guard (1) and sprocket guard (6) into location on the track roller frame using idler guard (5) as a locator.
Do not torch or weld on painted areas. The effect of gasses from burned paint is a danger to the person doing the cutting or welding.
8. Using the bolt holes in sprocket guard (6) as a guide, locate and weld two lugs (9) to the track roller frame. Repeat the above procedure using the bolt holes in right side guard (1) as a guide and weld eight additional lugs (9) to the track roller frame.9. Mount sprocket guard (6) and right side guard (1) to the track roller frame and secure using twelve bolts (11) and washers (12).
Illustration 1.10. Locate right side wiper guard (7) flush with the outside of the track roller frame and the rear track guiding guard, and level at the top of the track roller frame channel. Position the guard as close to the rear idler as possible while maintaining the above positioning.11. Using the bolt holes in wiper guard (7) as a guide, drill and tap the track roller frame at Location (B). Drill a 11.0 mm (.433 in) diameter hole. Tap this hole 1/2-13-2B UNC threads. Repeat this in three locations.12. Position wiper guard (7) and secure using three bolts (13) and washers (14).13. Install cover plate (15) and secure using four bolts (11) and washers (12).14. Repeat this procedure on the left track roller frame using left side guard (2) and left side wiper guard (8). On D5C (3MK1-280) machines, substitute 8Y8920 Right Side Guard (1) with 8Y8948 Right Side Guard (3), and 8Y8921 Left Side Guard (2) with 8Y8949 Left Side Guard (4).
