Hammer/Auxiliary Valve Port A Flow Solenoid connectionsThis diagnostic code is associated with the Hammer/Auxiliary Valve Port A Flow Solenoid (attachment). The FMI 03 diagnostic code means that the Machine ECM has determined that the voltage of the solenoid circuit is above normal.The Hammer/Auxiliary Valve Port A Flow Solenoid is a proportional solenoid that is controlled by a Machine ECM PWM driver output. To control the solenoid, the ECM will change the current of the PWM output signal for the solenoid based on the input position signal from the right-hand joystick thumbwheel. This solenoid can be overridden in Cat ET.Conditions that can cause this diagnostic code are listed below:
The energize circuit of the solenoid is shorted to another voltage source.
The ECM has failed. This situation is unlikely.Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, secure and in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected.Test Step 1. CHECK THE ENERGIZE CIRCUIT OF THE SOLENOID FOR A SHORT
Turn the key switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the solenoid.
Disconnect the machine harness connectors J1 and J2 from the Machine ECM.
At the machine harness connector J1 for the Machine ECM, measure the resistance from contact J1-67 (wire H760-YL) to all of the J1 and J2 contacts that are used on the Machine ECM connectors.Expected Result:Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms.Results:
OK - Each resistance measurement is greater than 5000 ohms. The energize circuit is not shorted to another circuit in the machine harness. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - One or more of the resistance measurements is less than 5000 ohms. There is a short in the machine harness. The short is between wire H760-YL and the circuit that has a low resistance measurement.Repair: Refer to the complete machine Electrical System Schematic. Examine all of the connectors in circuits for points in the machine harness where the circuits could be shorted. For information on testing for short circuits and finding short circuits, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Wiring Harness (Short Circuit) - Test".
