This Special Instruction contains the necessary procedures and information to install a personality module (if required) and associated hardware for bulk hauler/remote applications.Reference: 3176 Electronic TroubleshootingReference: 3176B and 3406E Electronic TroubleshootingFeatures/Effects of Bulk Hauler Personality Module
Quicker Acceleration For ACCEL and RESUME
The 3176 (7LG) Bulk Hauler Personality Module and standard 3176B (9CK) and 3406E (5EK) Personality Module provides a faster PTO Engine RPM ramp rate (ACCEL/DECEL), compared to the standard 3176 (7LG) Personality Module. The 3176B (9CK) and 3406E (5EK) Personality Module provides the Bulk Hauler feature as standard and has a customer specified parameter PTO Engine RPM ramp rate programmable from 5 rpm/sec to 1000 rpm/sec.The 3176 (7LG) Bulk Hauler Personality Module provides a set 500 rpm/sec ramp rate.Reduce Cycle Times
The increased ACCEL/DECEL rate can reduce cycle times for the application because the engine will reach the desired engine speed faster than with a standard 3176 (7LG) Personality Module (50 rpm/sec) ramp rate.Eliminate Additional Throttle Sensors
The increased ACCEL/DECEL may eliminate installation of additional throttle position sensors. The increased ACCEL/DECEL provided with the Bulk Hauler feature may be sufficient to replace an additional throttle position sensor, previously necessary because of the slower (50 rpm/sec) ramp rate for the standard 3176 (7LG) Personality Module.Ability To Disable Cab Throttle Sensor While In PTO
When the hardware is correctly installed, the cab throttle can be disabled while in PTO Mode without logging an Invalid Throttle Signal (PID-FMI-91-08, Flash Code, 32) diagnostic code. While the cab throttle is disabled in PTO Mode, the Bulk Hauler feature will indicate an ACTIVE Invalid Throttle Signal (PID-FMI-91-08, Flash Code, 32) diagnostic code, but it will NOT be logged while in PTO mode.A standard 3176 (7LG) Personality Module would indicate an ACTIVE and LOG an Invalid Throttle Signal (PID-FMI, 91-08, Flash Code, 32) diagnostic code.Limp Home Mode Removed
On standard 3176 (7LG) Bulk Hauler Personality Modules, the engine has the capability to use the CRUISE/PTO SET/RESUME switches (with the CRUISE switch in the ON position) to control engine speed when an Invalid Throttle Signal (PID-FMI, 91-08, Flash Code, 32) diagnostic code is ACTIVE.This feature is known as Limp Home and allows the vehicle to proceed to the customer specified Vehicle Speed Limit and Engine RPM at Vehicle Speed Limit. The Bulk Hauler feature removes this capability. With the Bulk Hauler feature the Limp Home is limited to the customer specified PTO Vehicle Speed Limit (1 - 15 MPH) and PTO RPM Limit.Reduce Change Of Engine Induced PTO Hydraulic Pump Damage
The ability to disable the cab throttle position sensor while the PTO driven device is in use will prevent the throttle position sensor from overriding the customer specified PTO RPM Limit. This is important if a PTO driven pump can be damaged due to engine over-speed.Personality Module Availability
The 3176B (9CK) and 3406E (5EK) Personality Module provides the Bulk Hauler feature as standard.Installation And Operation Options
If the vehicle application requires engine PTO operation using non-standard CRUISE/PTO switch wiring, special wiring considerations may be necessary.Reasons for special wiring
