PROBLEM:
Overcooling of the engine can cause the Diagnostic Code 175-4 "Engine Oil Temperature Short To Ground" to be displayed. Overcooling occurs when the coolant temperature is below 70C and the oil temperature is above 80C. Some 191-6587 Oil Temperature Sensors that are NOT faulty are being replaced when the Diagnostic Code 175-4 "Engine Oil Temperature Short To Ground" occurs.
SOLUTION:
Debris and/or gasket material has been found restricting the 4W-4794 or 7C-3095 Temperature Regulator from completely closing. See the illustrations. If the temperature regulator cannot close, overcooling can be a result.
Another problem that could restrict the closing of the 4W-4794 or 7C-3095 Temperature Regulator is fuel in the coolant. The fuel can cause the regulator seal to swell. The swollen seal could prevent the regulator from closing. This could result in overcooling.
If you have the Diagnostic Code 175-4, do not replace the 191-6587 sensor until you have checked the 4W-4794 or 7C-3095 Temperature Regulator. If no debris is found in the regulator, proceed with the troubleshooting procedure for Diagnostic Code 175-4.
