Parking Brake Switch
The parking brake is a mechanical brake. The parking brake is actuated by a hand lever in the cab. A parking brake switch is used to determine if the parking brake is being applied by the operator.Note: The switch does not indicate the efficiency of the parking brake.The instrument cluster uses the parking brake indicator for the following purposes:
Display the state of the parking brake switch.
Indicate warnings of the parking brake system for the functionality of protection.The functionality of protection includes the following:
The parking brake not engaged at machine shutdown.
The parking brake is engaged while F or R direction is requested.
The parking brake is engaged while the machine is moving.Alert Indicator of the Parking Brake
The alert indicator of the parking brake will be activated when the parking brake is On. The alert indicator of the parking brake is activated by the monitoring system via the CAN A J1939. When the parking brake status is Off or when the parking brake status is Fault, the alert indicator of the parking brake will be off.The Parking Brake Not Engaged Warning
When the key start switch is turned to the OFF position and the parking brake is not engaged, a warning that indicates that the parking brake is not engaged will be present. This will result in the following:
The audible alert alarm on the instrument cluster sounds continuously for 10 seconds on machines that are not equipped with a Machine Security System (MSS). The audible alert alarm on the instrument cluster sounds continuously for 30 seconds on machines that are equipped with MSS.
The action lamp ON
The alert lamp for the parking brake FLASHESNote: The warning that indicates that the parking brake is not engaged will be cleared if the parking brake is engaged and the audible alert alarm is sounding. See the Systems Operation, "Warning Operation" Section of this manual for details.Warning of the Parking Brake Engaged
If the parking brake is reported as ON and the forward/reverse control switch is not in neutral then the following will occur:
The action lamp on the instrument cluster will be ON.
The alert lamp for the parking brake will flash.
The audible action alarm will sound up to 10 seconds.
A Level 1 event will be raised.Note: See the Systems Operation, "Warning Operation" Section of this manual for details on the audible action alarm. This warning will be maintained indefinitely or this warning will be maintained until one of the following occurs:
The status of the parking brake changes to a state that is not the ON position.
The request of the F/R Control changes to N
The switch for direction changes to NDrive Through Warning of the Parking Brake
