The applicable Cat generator set specification sheet must list Natural Gas and Liquid Propane Gas Vapor (LPG-V) as approved fuel sources.
The Engine Emissions Label must clearly state that the Engine is Certified to Operate on NG or LPG. Reference Illustration 1.
The engine ECM factory labeling must match the ECM profile data in Table 1 (that is, ECM I.D. number and ECM Calibration (.mot) File Number).Note: The 5.7L Turbo and 8.8L Turbo engines are not eligible for a Field Fuel Conversion. These engines have dedicated single fuel type systems that operate on Natural Gas (NG) only.Fuel Supply Modifications
The low fuel pressure supply piping and primary fuel pressure regulator may need to be corrected to comply with the proper fuel volume and delivery pressure of the new fuel source as stated in the applicable generator set specification sheet.The dealer shall compare the performance characteristics of the existing low fuel pressure piping and primary fuel pressure regulator with the installation requirements specified in the published Cat documentation listed below. The dealer shall then, implement any necessary changes to ensure that the low fuel pressure supply system is in compliance with the Cat specifications.

The fuel type configuration input for the engine Electronic Control Module (ECM) must be changed to coincide with the new fuel source. The fuel type configuration input can be changed at the Customer Connection Terminal strip. Refer to Illustration 2.

Locate the terminal blocks labeled "-" and "LP".
Look for a red colored jumper block installed at the "-" and "LP" terminals to determine the fuel system configuration of the generator set.
For Natural Gas Fuel Type Configuration - No Jumper Installed. Reference Illustration 3.
For Liquid Propane Gas (LPG) - Install jumper across "-" and "LP" terminals. Reference Illustration 4.Note: The use of a field fabricated jumper wire is acceptable for use, if a red colored jumper block is unavailable.
After changing the fuel system configuration wiring at the terminal strip, connect the appropriate engine ECM service tool to the engine ECM and establish communications.
