Personal injury or death can result from a fire.Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.Clean up all leaked or spilled fuel. Do not smoke while working on the fuel system.Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Do not fill fuel filters with fuel before installing them. Contaminated fuel will cause accelerated wear to fuel system parts.
This machine has two secondary fuel filter elements. Replace both secondary fuel filter elements at the same time by following the instructions below.

Fuel supply shutoff valve
The fuel supply shutoff valve has a red handle and is located beneath the fuel tank at the rear of the machine. Close the fuel supply shutoff valve.

(1) Upper engine access door
(2) Lower engine access door
Open upper engine access door (1) on the left-hand side of the machine. Then, lift and remove lower engine access door (2) and place the lower engine access door in a safe location.

Secondary fuel filter elements
The primary fuel filter element shown in this view may appear different from the filter element on your machine.
Remove the used secondary fuel filter elements. Dispose of the used filter elements properly.
Clean the filter mounting bases. Make sure that all of the old seals are removed.
Apply a thin coat of clean diesel fuel to the seal on each new fuel filter element.
Install the new filters by hand. When the seals contact the base, tighten the filters according to the instructions on the filters. Rotation index marks are positioned on the filters at 90 degree intervals. Use these rotation index marks as a guide when you tighten the filters.
Open the fuel supply shutoff valve that was closed in step 1.
Turn the engine start switch to the ON position. Leave the engine start switch in the ON position for 2 minutes. This action allows the fuel system to fully prime.
Start the engine and run the engine. Check the secondary fuel filters for leaks.
Install the lower engine access door. Then, close the upper engine access door.
