Install the turbocharger in Tooling (A). Mark the turbocharger housings for the proper alignment during assembly.
Loosen clamp (2). Remove clamp (2) and compressor housing (1).

Loosen clamp (5) and remove cartridge assembly (3) from turbine housing (4).

Do Not place a side force on the shaft when the nut is removed or tightened. The shaft will bend and cause damage to the turbocharger.
Place the end of the turbine shaft in Tooling (B). Use a socket to remove the nut that holds compressor wheel (6).

Install Tooling (F) on Tooling (C). Heat Tooling (C) to 177 °C (350 °F). Install the cartridge assembly on Tooling (F) so that only the compressor wheel is in the oil. Heat the compressor wheel for no more than 10 minutes.

Use a suitable press to push the turbine shaft out of compressor wheel (6) and the cartridge housing. Remove compressor wheel (6).

Remove O-ring seal (7) from the cartridge housing. Remove thrust washer (8), bearing (9), and washer (10).

Put the turbine wheel in Tooling (B). Remove seal ring (12) and shroud (13) from turbine shaft (11).

Bend the tabs of locks (16) away from bolts (14) and remove bolts (14) and locks (16).
Remove back plate assembly (17) from the cartridge housing. Remove spacer (15) from back plate assembly (17). Remove the seal rings from spacer (15).
Remove collar (18) from behind back plate assembly (17).

Remove thrust bearing (19) and the O-ring seal from the cartridge housing.
Remove top bearing (20) and the washer from the cartridge housing . Place an identification mark on the bearings.

Use Tooling (G) to remove snap rings (21) and (24).
Remove bearing (22) and washer (23). Place an identification mark on the bearing. Note: The identification marks are used for identification of the bearings when the bearings are installed.
Use Tooling (G) to remove the lower snap ring from cartridge housing (25).
Check the condition of all the parts of the turbocharger. If the parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. Refer to Special Instructions, SMHS6854, "Turbocharger Reconditioning". Also refer to Guideline for Reusable Parts, SEBF8018-01.
