Move the transmission direction control lever to the NEUTRAL position.

Move the lever for the parking brake downward to the LOCK position.

Move the attachment control levers to the HOLD position. Engage the restraints for the attachment controls.

Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position. The battery disconnect switch is inside of the access door on the left side of the machine.

Turn the key start switch to the ON position. The system performs an automatic self test. When you turn on the start switch key the test is performed. If the test is complete without any faults, proceed to next step. If the system detects a fault, check the electrical system. Make all of the necessary repairs before you start the engine.

Turn the start switch to the START position. Crank the engine. Release the key when the engine starts.
Do not crank the engine for more than 30 seconds. Allow the starter to cool for two minutes before cranking again. Turbocharger damage can result if the engine rpm is not kept low until the oil gauge display verifies that the oil pressure is sufficient.
Cold Mode Operation
If the oil temperature is less than 60 °C (140 °F), the ECM will set cold start conditions. Low rpm may be increased to 1000 rpm under cold start conditions. Engine power will also be limited and ether may be injected. Cold mode will be deactivated when the above temperature condition is met, or after the engine is running for fourteen minutes. Elevated low idle can also be disabled by placing an automatic transmission in gear from neutral or by releasing the parking brake. The cold mode operation may slowly ramp up to 1000 rpm after disabling the elevated low idle, if the temperature conditions still exist and an automatic transmission is not in gear. Cold mode varies the amount of fuel injection and timing for white smoke control.Note: Not all applications can have elevated low idle.
A machine with a 3408E Engine should not be moved until it is out of Cold Mode. If the machine is operated while in Cold Mode, power may be noticeably reduced.
