Inverter low voltage compartments
(1) Terminal blocks
(2) Motor ECMs, Interface modules, Y type data link connectorsTest Step 1. CHECK THE GROUND CIRCUITS
Turn the key start switch and the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
At the Inverter Cabinet. Remove the cover (2) for the low voltage compartment that contains the motor control ECM and the interface modules. To access the terminal blocks and the ground block, the low voltage compartment cover (1) can be removed.Note: If a situation occurs where a high-voltage compartment must be opened, the Power Train Electrical System Service Shutdown procedure must be performed before removing the cover. Refer to the Troubleshooting, "Electrical Shutdown and Voltage Discharge" section of this manual for the procedure that must be performed before any high-voltage compartment cover can be removed.
Disconnect the machine harness connector J1 from the Motor 1 ECM.
Examine the circuit connections that are used on the J1 connector. Ensure that all the sockets are seated and locked securely in the connector body. Verify that all the sockets are dry, clean, and free of any type of contamination. Pull on the wires at the back of the connector to verify that all the wires are secure and properly connected to the sockets in the connector. Specifically check the condition of the location code enable contact at J1-35 (wire LCE1-BK(Black)) and the location code 1 contact at J1-41 (wire LC1-BK(Black)).
At the disconnected J1 connector for the Motor 1 ECM, use a multimeter to measure the resistance between the location code enable contact J1-35 (wire LCE1-BK(Black)) and a good cabinet ground point.
At the disconnected J1 connector for the Motor 1 ECM, measure the resistance between the location code 1 contact J1-41 (wire LC1-BK(Black)) and a good cabinet ground point.Expected Result:The ECM J1 connector is in good condition. All the sockets are properly seated and all the wires are properly connected. Both of the resistance measurements between the location code circuits and cabinet ground are less than 5.0 ohms.Results:
OK - There is no problem found with the J1 connector and the ground circuits measure a low resistance (continuity) to cabinet ground. Both of the ground circuits are correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - There is a problem with the J1 connector or there is a problem with one of the location code ground circuits that measured greater than 5.0 ohms of resistance when checked to cabinet ground.Repair: Correct any problem that has been found in the J1 connector for the Motor 1 ECM. After correcting the problem, check the status of the active diagnostic code.If one or both of the location code ground circuits measured greater than 5.0 ohms of resistance when checked to cabinet ground, access the ground block in the left side low voltage compartment. The ground block is located below the terminal blocks on the floor of the compartment.The location code circuits are directly connected between the ECM and the ground block. Check the ground circuit connections at the ground block for the two location code
