from the sensor.
At the back of the harness connector for the sensor, insert 7X-1710 Multimeter Probes along contact for the power supply 1 (wire 799-WH(White)). Insert a multimeter probe along return contact 2 (wire A202-BK(Black)).
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the ON position.
Measure the voltage from contact 1 to contact 2. Expected Result:The voltage measurement is 10 0.5 DCV.Results:
OK - The voltage measurement is 10 0.5 DCV. The power supply circuit of the "Transmission/Chassis ECM" is correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - The voltage measurement is not 10 0.5 DCV. The power supply circuit that is coming from the "Transmission/Chassis ECM" is not correct.Repair: Verify that the "Transmission/Chassis ECM" has not lost the power supply connection to the machine system. Loss of power to the "Transmission/Chassis ECM" can cause this code to activate. If the "Transmission/Chassis ECM" is powered up, check the circuit for the sensor return A202-BK(Black) or the supply wire 799-WH(White) in the machine harness for an open circuit or a bad connection. Refer to the complete Electrical System Schematic of the machine. Examine all of the connectors that are in the circuit. Ensure that the connections are clean, that all connections are secure and that all connections are in good condition. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness in order to restore the power supply to the sensor.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE SENSORTurn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the "Left Steering Cylinder" position sensor and disconnect the machine harness connector from the "Right Steering Cylinder" position sensor. Mark the harness connector for the "Left Steering Sensor".
Connect the marked connector for the "Left Steering Sensor" to the connector for the "Right Steering Sensor". Connect the unmarked connector for the "Right Steering Sensor" to the connector for the "Left Steering Sensor".
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
Observe the status of the active diagnostic code for the "Left Steering Sensor". Expected Result:When the harness connectors are switched, the CID 2200 FMI 03 diagnostic code for the "Left Steering Sensor" is not active. A CID 2201 FMI 03 diagnostic code for the "Right Steering Sensor" is now active. Results:
YES - The CID 2200 FMI 03 diagnostic code is no longer active. A CID 2201 FMI 03 diagnostic code is now active. The sensor has failed.Repair: The "Left Steering Cylinder" position sensor is the cause of the problem. Replace the "Left Steering Cylinder" position sensor. BEFORE REPLACING THE "STEERING POSITION SENSOR", RECONNECT THE HARNESS CONNECTORS TO THE CORRECT "STEERING SENSOR" CONNECTORS. For removal of the position sensor from the steering cylinder, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, RENR 9704, "Clevis Style Cylinder Sensor - Remove and Install". After the replacement of the sensor, the new parameters for the position sensor MUST be entered in Cat ET before the machine can be operated. Refer to the Testing and Adjusting,
