Schematic for the Position Sensor (Lift Cylinder) Note: The lift cylinder position sensor is equipped on the 824H and the 826H model machines that have the Automatic Blade Position function.This diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM determines that the signal for the lift cylinder position sensor is too low. The lift cylinder position sensor is a pulse width modulated sensor.The output frequency of the position sensor is approximately 115 hertz. The duty cycle of the signal changes as the position sensor moves. The duty cycle varies from 5 to 95%.The possible causes for this diagnostic code are listed:
The sensor was not properly calibrated.
The sensor has failed.
The magnet or sensor has come loose inside of the cylinder.
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.System Response:The machine response is listed:
The ABP System, kickouts, and cylinder snubbing will not function.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code is corrected. Test Step 1. CALIBRATE THE SENSOR
Check to see if the CID 1964 FMI 01 diagnostic code is active.Expected Result:The CID 1964 FMI 01 diagnostic code is active.Results:
YES - The CID 1964 FMI 01 diagnostic code is active.Repair: Perform the calibration procedure for the position sensor. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Position Sensor for the Lift Linkage (Electronic Technician) - Calibrate" for the correct calibration procedure. After performing the calibration procedure, operate the machine in order to see if the problem has been corrected. If the CID 1964 FMI 01 diagnostic code is still active, proceed to Test Step 2.
NO - The CID 1964 FMI 01 diagnostic code is not active at this time. Resume normal machine operation. If this diagnostic code is activated again within a short period of time, perform the calibration procedure that is listed above. Stop.Test Step 2. CHECK THE HARNESS.
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the harness from the sensor.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
At the harness connector for the sensor, measure the voltage between contact A (wire P994-BU) and contact B (wire 299-BK).Expected Result:The voltage should measure +10 VDC.Results:
YES - The voltage measures +10 VDC.Repair: The harness is correct. The sensor or the sensor harness has failed. Check the sensor harness. If no defect is found, replace the sensor. Stop.
NO - The voltage does not measure 10 DCV. The ECM or the harness has failed. Proceed to Test Step 3.Test Step 3. CHECK THE GROUND CIRCUIT OF THE HARNESS.
The sensor remains disconnected.
Turn the key switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connectors J1 and J2 from the ECM.
At the harness connector for the sensor, measure the resistance between contact B (wire 299-BK) and the frame ground.Expected Result:The resistance should be less than 5 ohms.Results:
YES - The resistance is less than 5 ohms. The harness is correct. Proceed to Test Step 4.
NO - The resistance is greater than 5 ohms.Repair: The ground circuit in the harness has failed. There
