Information:
Cut out and replace plate (1) and plate (3). You will also need to remove plate (2) in order to access the crack.

Cutting specifications for the plates (C) 550 mm (D) 22 degree bevelProcedures for All Areas
Cut plate (1) from point (A) to point (B). The distance is 550 mm (21.7 inch) down from the top edge.
Illustration 3 g01453159
Remove fillet weld (C). The weld is located on the inside of the frame. Remove the fillet weld (D). Remove the bevel weld (E). The weld is located on the outside of the frame.
Add a bevel weld to the edge of point (B). The bevel weld is located on plate (1). The weld is approximately 22 degrees. Grind the area clean.
Completely remove plate (2) .
Remove all fillet welds (D). Remove all fillet welds (E). Remove all bevel welds (F) .
Inspect the crack in the weld toe of plate (3).
Completely remove the crack in the weld toe of plate (3). The crack must be completely removed with a air carbon arc torch or a similar tool.
Repair any cracks that have grown into the 50 mm (1.97 inch) side plate. Repair any cracks by completely removing the crack. Make a groove in order to remove the crack. The width of the groove must be at least two times the depth. Weld the groove per standard Caterpillar welding methods. Grind all surfaces clean.
Repair any cracks that may have grown into the side plate. The 50 mm (2 inch) thick plate is attached to the side plate.

Completely remove plate (3). Use a new 8R-9056 Plate to replace the old plate. If you reuse the plate remove any defects from the back of the plate. Grind the surface smooth.
Do not weld the bottom of plate (3) .

(N) 550 mm (X) 22 degree bevel
Tack weld plate (1) and plate (2) in place.
The new 8R-9055 Plate should be cut to the length of 550 mm (21.7 inch). The top tie-in must be removed after welding and prior to machining. Grind all surfaces smooth and clean.
Create a 22 degree bevel on the edge. This should be located on plate (1). Grind the edge clean.
Install plate (1) at the same height as the previous plate. Leave at least a 5 mm (0.20 inch) root opening with the old plate. See Illustration 6.
Install plate (2) .Note: Be careful not to weld too much at one time. Weld small passes. The area must be allowed to cool. Clean the weld area and needle peen between passes. Grind the ends of the fillet welds and the bevel welds flush with the plate. Each pass should be free of crater cracks, slag inclusions, undercuts, porosity, and any other discontinuities. Note: Leave a 4 mm (0.16 inch) or 5 mm (0.20 inch) camber on the frame plate.
Tie bars may need to be applied across the A-pin. Grind the surface clean. You must verify the diameter and alignment of the A-pin
