Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change".

Disconnect hose (1) from the water pump.

Remove hose assemblies (2).

Disconnect harness assembly (4) from the coolant level sensor.
Disconnect elbows (3) and (5) from the heat exchanger.

Disconnect elbows (6) and (7) from the heat exchanger.

Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to heat exchanger (8). The weight of the heat exchanger is approximately 66 kg (145 lb).
Remove bolts (9) from each side of the mounting bracket for heat exchanger (8).
Remove heat exchanger (8) from the engine.

Remove bolts (10) and tank (11) from the heat exchanger.
