start by:a) remove vibration damper and pulleyb) remove fan drivec) remove alternatord) remove air compressore) remove water pumpf) remove air conditioning compressorg) remove oil pan plate 1. Install tooling (A) under the cylinder block as shown. 2. Remove bolts (1) and pipe assembly (2) from the timing gear. 3. Remove bolts (3) and (4). Remove front support (5).
Use care when the trunnion is removed and installed to prevent damage to the crankshaft front seal.
4. Remove bolts (6) and trunnion (7) from the timing gear cover. 5. Remove bolts (8) and timing gear cover (9).6. Remove the old gasket from the contact surfaces of the timing gear cover and plate.Install Timing Gear Cover
1. Install a new gasket on the timing gear plate. Cut the gasket even with the bottom face of the cylinder block. Put 5H2471 Gasket Cement on the bottom of the gasket where the gasket makes contact with the gasket for the oil pan plate. 2. Put timing gear cover (1) in position on the timing gear plate and install the bolts that hold it in place.3. Put clean engine oil on the outside diameter of the crankshaft, the lip of the crankshaft seal and the O-ring seal for the trunnion.
Be extra careful when the trunnion is installed to prevent damage to the crankshaft front seal.
4. Put trunnion (2) and the O-ring seal in position on the timing gear cover and install the bolts that hold it. 5. Put front support (3) in position and install the bolts that hold it to the frame and trunnion.6. Remove tooling (A) from under the cylinder block. 7. Install the O-ring seal on the pipe assembly. start by:a) remove timing gear cover1. Put the engine in correct timing. See REMOVE FUEL INJECTION PUMP HOUSING AND GOVERNOR for this procedure. 2. Remove bolt (1) and the washer that holds gear (2) in place.3. Install tooling (C) and bolt (1) to hold the sleeve on the end of the fuel injection pump camshaft.4. Install tooling (A) on gear (2) and tighten the center bolt of tooling (A) until the gear is loosened.5. Remove tooling (A), bolt (1), tooling (C) and the gear. 6. Remove bolts (4), plate (3) and idler gear (5). 7. Inspect the bearing in idler gear (5) for wear or damage. If a replacement of the bearing is needed, use tool group (B) and a press to remove it from the gear as shown. 8. Remove bolts (6) and camshaft gear (7) from the camshaft.9. Remove the three nuts on the back side of the plate that hold the fuel pump to the plate. 10. Bend locks (9) away from the bolts.11. Remove the bolts, locks (9) and plate (8)
