There have been reports of cracks in the welded joint between the mounting bracket and the tube on the 281-3510 Tube As on certain 330D and 336D Excavators and the 230-2871 Tube As on certain 324D, 325D, and 329D Excavators. The incorrect location of the bracket during the manufacturing process and vibration contribute to creating the cracks in the welded joint. If the existing air intake tube assembly fails, a leak in the air-to-air aftercooling line between the turbocharger and the air-to-air aftercooler will result. The leakage of air in the air inlet system causes low engine power and a loss of boost pressure.

The manufacturer of the tube assemblies for the Akashi plant has improved the manufacturing process. A new welding fixture has been put into production in order to locate the bracket correctly on the tube.The tube assemblies in the Parts Distribution System are acceptable. Other suppliers of the tube assemblies did not have the issue.Table 1 and Table 2 list the effectivity and adaptability of the improved tube assembly.
