Information:
If the tractor tires slip on steep grades, move the cushion hitch control to the LOCK DOWN position. This will help in reducing tractor tire slippage.657E Only
On slopes steep enough to cause the tractor wheels to slip, shift to 1st or 2nd gear to prevent stalling of the scraper engine.Wheel slippage can cause unexpected and undesirable upshifting of the transmission.
Transmission Hold Use
Use the transmission hold pedal to prevent undesired shifting of the transmission.1. Apply the transmission hold to prevent upshifts while loading or dumping.2. Slow down the machine and depress the pedal to hold the transmission in a low gear before starting down a grade.3. Hold the transmission in a lower gear to increase engine rpm when approaching an upgrade.4. Use the transmission hold pedal in rough terrain to prevent continuous up and down shifting. The transmission hold pedal may be used to skip gears when slowing to enter a cut or the fill area. Skip only one gear at a time. Do not skip gears below 5th.To skip a gear, push DOWN the transmission hold pedal. Allow the ground speed to slow enough that it will cause the transmission to downshift two speeds. Release the pedal.Parking/Emergency Brake System
If the brake system air pressure drops below normal operating pressure, a warning horn will sound. The low brake pressure and the parking brake indicators on the operator's panel will come on. The fault light will start blinking. If the pressure drops further, the parking/emergency brake will apply automatically.Be prepared for a sudden stop. Correct the reason for the loss of air pressure. Do not move the machine without normal air pressure.
Loss of brake oil or air pressure will cause the brake indicators on the operator panel to come on. The parking/emergency brake will automatically engage and stop the machine. The fault light will also blink when the monitor system lights come on.In an emergency, the machine can be moved with the parking/emergency brake applied, with the engine running, and the transmission in 1st speed.Manual Release of the Parking/Emergency Brake
When the parking/emergency brake is released manually, the machine has no brakes. All wheels must be blocked securely before the parking/emergency brake is released. If the machine is to be towed, two machines of comparable size, one on each end of the disabled tractor scraper, must be used.
Connect a pressure air hose (1) from an operating machine or from a portable air compressor to the air supply port of the rotochamber. Fill the rotochamber with pressure air to release the parking/emergency brake temporarily. Remove the cotter pin (2) from the link pin (3). Remove the link pin. Turn the lock bolt (4) to the left (counterclockwise). Turn the cam adjuster (5) to the left (counterclockwise) until the cam link does not contact the rod (6).Disconnect the pressure air hose. The brake rod should not contact the cam link. The brake should be released now. If the rod still contacts the link, loosen the cam adjuster some more.Repeat this procedure in the same sequence on
