ROD-CONNECTING 4742293 - Caterpillar

Do not disconnect any hydraulic lines until the system pressure is zero.
1. Disconnect hydraulic hoses (1) and (2) from the steering cylinder. Put plugs on all oil openings. 2. Install a nylon strap and a hoist on the steering cylinder.3. Remove plates (3) from the draft frame on each end of the cylinder head end shaft. Remove the shaft with a hammer and a brass punch. 4. Remove the grease fittings from each end of the cylinder rod end shaft. Remove plate (4) from the steering link assemblies. Use a hammer and a brass punch to remove the shaft. Remove the steering cylinder. The weight of the steering cylinder is 54 kg (120 lb.). Remove the shims from both the rod and head end of the steering cylinder. Identify their location for assembly purposes.Install Steering Cylinders
1. With a nylon strap and a hoist in position on steering cylinder (1), put it in position on the machine. 2. Put shims (3) in position between the head end of the cylinder and the draft frame. Install shaft (2) and the plates. 3. Put the cylinder rod and shims (5) in position. Install shaft (4), the plate and the grease fittings on each end of the shaft. Remove the hoist. 4. Connect hydraulic hoses (6) and (7) to the steering cylinder.5. Put grease in all the fittings for the steering system.6. Fill the hydraulic system to the correct level. See the Maintenance Guide.
