Information:
Sudden movement or accidental starting of the machine can cause personal injury or death to persons on or near the machine. To prevent personal injury or death, perform the following:Park the machine on a smooth, level surface.Lower the work tool to the ground and engage the parking brake.Stop the engine and remove the key.Block the wheels and install the steering frame lock.
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide"for tools and supplies to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations.
The axle cooling system is a "On/Off" system. The steering pilot pump supplies the axle oil cooling system. When the system is activated, the oil for the steering pilot pump is diverted to the axle oil system in order to drive the axle oil cooling motor before going to the steering pilot system. The activation and the deactivation of the axle oil cooling system is controlled by the solenoid valve in the axle cooling system control valve. Without a properly operating solenoid valve, the axle oil cooling system will not properly cool the axles on the machine. The axle oil cooling system control valve is located above the torque converter housing.Use the following procedure in order to verify the correct pressures for the system.
Park the machine on a smooth, level surface. Allow the axles to cool below 30 °C (86 °F).
Connect the steering frame lock link.
Engage the parking brake.

Attach a 3500 kPa (500 psi) pressure gauge to pressure tap (4) and pressure tap (5) on the diagnostic plate.
Shift the transmission to neutral.
Disconnect the solenoid valve at the harness connector (1). The axle oil cooling system will activate when the solenoid is disconnected.
Start the engine. Warm the hydraulic oil to the normal operating temperature of 49° to 65 °C (120° to 150 °F).
Run the engine at high idle. Record the readings from both of the gauges. The pressure should be above 200 kPa (30 psi). If the pressure does not rise above 200 kPa (30 psi) on both
