Electronic Control Module (ECM) provides a comprehensive engine monitoring system for this engine. The ECM monitors specific engine operating parameters in order to detect abnormal conditions that may develop. The ECM will generate a diagnostic code if a specific engine parameter exceeds an acceptable range that is defined by the engine monitoring system. The ECM will react with an action that is dependent on the severity of the condition. For information on diagnostic codes , refer to Troubleshooting, "Diagnostic Trouble Codes".The following actions may be initiated by the ECM. These actions are dependent on the severity of the condition.

Engine shutdownUse the electronic service tool to perform the following activities for the monitoring system:
Viewing parameters
Parameter programming
Set delay timesThe default settings for the parameters are programmed at the factory. To accommodate unique applications and sites, some of the parameters may be reprogrammed with the electronic service tool. Use the electronic service tool to modify the monitoring system parameters.Note: Some parameters cannot be changed. Some applications do not allow any changes to the programmable monitoring system.
