Error Message Dialogue Box
An incompatibility issue is identified on service tool laptops running with 64-bit version of Windows 10. The Windows 10 prohibits the Engines Electronic Control Module (ECM) from connecting to the 4G/DCP Display service tool software through the ECOM Communications Adapter. This issue is due to the ECOM Communications Adapter software "driver installer" not being digitally signed. The 64-bit versions of Windows 10 require the operator to install digitally signed drivers.Refer to Illustration 1 for the error message dialogue box that is displayed when initially installing the ECOM drivers.Solution
Caterpillar is aware of this problem, but a permanent repair has not been identified. As an interim action, follow the instructions given below:
Perform the below instructions to uninstall the ECOM drivers:
Click the "Windows" icon at the bottom of the screen and clicking the "Settings" icon.
Then click on "System>Apps & Features".
Scroll down until "ECOM E2046000" appears by EControls, LLC.
Click on the application and then click "Uninstall".

Restart option
Temporarily disable driver signature enforcement by following the below instructions:
Press and hold the "Shift" key on your keyboard and click the "Restart" option (Refer to Illustration 2).
Choose "Troubleshoot>Advanced Options>Startup Settings" and then click the "Restart" option.
When the computer restarts, user may find a list of options. Press "F7" on the keyboard to select "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement".
The computer will now restart and the user will be able to install unsigned drivers.
Reinstall the ECOM drivers and perform a system reboot, confirm that the 4G/GCP Display service tool software is connecting to the engines ECM.Note: Once the computer reboots, the driver signature enforcement is re-enabled for any new driver installs. The ECOM driver continues to function/connect to the engine ECM because the ECOM driver is signed, but the ECOM installer is not signed.
