When the truck coasts at ground speeds above 50 km/h (30 mph), the shaft can reach a critical speed in which it becomes uncontrollable. The shaft bends, damaging the mid-axle support bearing. The mid-axle support is not strong enough to withstand the load from the bending shaft. Once the mid-axle support is sufficiently damaged, the bending shaft can also damage either the planetary gear set or the coupler. In the worst cases, the traction motor can also be damaged.
