Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the electronic control module. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Electronic Control Module - Remove and Install".
Remove the governor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Governor - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Disconnect harness assembly (1) .
Remove ten bolts (2) , nut (3) , and nut (4) (not shown).
Remove ring cover (5) . Remove the gasket between ring cover (5) and the front housing.

Remove bolts (8) , timing ring (9) , ring retainer (6) (not shown) and fuel pump drive gear (7) .

Remove bolts (10) and the washers. Remove bolts (12) and the washers.
Move mounting bracket (11) out of the way.

Disconnect tube assembly (14) . Plug and cap all openings immediately.
Remove four bolts (13) . Remove four bolts (15) that hold governor drive (16) to the cylinder block.

Push governor drive (16) out of front housing (17) with Tooling (A) .

Use Tooling (B) to remove governor drive (16) . The weight of governor drive (16) is approximately 32 kg (70 lb).
Check O-ring seal (18) for damage or wear. If O-ring seal (18) is damaged or worn, use a new part for replacement.
